About the Artist

Walter's cut paper is made entirely of paper in his studio in Dallas, Texas. At an early age Land discovered a God-given talent cutting paper.  He’s worked in the medium, honed his skills and evolved his techniques to bring his vision into reality. Walter’s fine handiwork and craftsman-like feel for the textures and hues of specialty and handmade papers have transformed from his love of the human form in motion and graphic design into a new creation of something truly unique.

“I use paper the way a painter uses pigment,” Land says.

 “It’s like painting with paper.”

Cut-paper art has it's origins in China (and then Japan) centuries ago. Walter didn't know that when he started, but he is happy to be part of such a long tradition. He enjoys mixing and matching the different colors and textures, and layering them to create his vision.

Land’s old-world technical refinement coupled with his bold, post-modern vision have made his images coveted not only by sports stars, but by serious collectors and the general public alike.  How Land’s creations will evolve from here is any art lover’s guess, but we can be certain they will be at the cutting edge of 21st century imagery — both warmly representational and vibrantly kinetic.

"There is nothing more difficult for a truly creative painter than

to paint a rose, because before he can do so he has first to forget

all the roses that were ever painted.."
